About

The Vishnupad Temple is one of the holiest temples in India, located on the sacred banks of the Falgu River in Gaya, Bihar. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple is renowned for housing the 40-centimeter sacred footprint of Lord Vishnu, known as the Dharmasila.Built in 1787 by Maratha Queen Ahilyabai Holkar, the temple stands as a symbol of devotion and divine grace. Its unique pyramidal structure, rising nearly 100 feet high and supported by 44 intricately carved stone pillars, makes it a marvel of traditional temple architecture.

The Vishnupad Mandir is deeply rooted in Hindu scriptures, being mentioned in both the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. The sacred footprint of Lord Vishnu is believed to be the exact spot where He subdued the demon Gayasura, sanctifying the land forever.Every year, thousands of devotees and pilgrims visit the temple, especially during Pitru Paksha, to perform Shraddha and Pind Daan rituals. It is believed that performing these rites at Vishnupad Mandir ensures peace for ancestors’ souls and divine blessings for future generations.
